Subject: Life at university
Hi Hamza,
How are you? I’m fine, and life in Monastir is great indeed! I rent a small flat with two girls from Gabès and Le Kef. I get on very well with them — we cook together and share the expenses: rent, electricity and food.
Before I came here, I didn’t realise how expensive life is. Mum and Dad send me money every month, but I intend to find a part-time job. I’m thinking of giving maths lessons to secondary school pupils on Saturdays.
I know you are worried about the ninth-year exam. Don’t be! You are sensitive, so you take every bad mark to heart, but you are also clever and hard-working. I expect you’ll do well. I will help you with physics when I come home in December.
And my big plan? In ten years’ time, I’ll be an engineer. I’ll design solar panels for schools in the south. Maybe I’ll even start my own company!
What about you? Write and tell me your plans.
Love,
Ines

A model text to compare with (after writing mine)
In ten years’ time, I’ll be twenty-five years old. I hope I’ll be a vet, because I love animals. I’ll probably live in Bizerte, near the sea. At first, I’ll rent a small flat with a friend to share the expenses. I intend to open my own clinic one day, and I’m thinking of working with farmers in the countryside too. My parents expect me to visit them every weekend, and I will. I won’t forget my school friends: we’re already planning a big meeting in 2036!
One good example among many: compare, don’t copy.
😊 The lighter side استراحة

What is always in front of you but can’t be seen?
Answer
The future.
Son: “Dad, I’ll be rich one day!” — Dad: “Great. Will you lend me some money then?”
